JON BRADY WITH A RECRUITMENT UPDATE

The Cobblers boss with an update on a number of issues

8 June 2021

We sat down with manager Jon Brady who provided a recruitment update from inside the club after a very busy few weeks.

Jon said, “It has certainly been a very busy few weeks with Martin (Foyle) coming in and getting through a lot of work, speaking to a lot of people, working his way through a lot of recommendations and working very hard to help us strengthen the squad.

"We have also met a few times as a recruitment committee and it is wonderful to also be able to have Graham Carr call his contacts to get feedback on players. It certainly adds another level of research for us as a club.

“We are expecting one player to sign within the next 24 hours as long as the medical goes well. He is an exciting player who has a good amount of experience.

“We have also finished our conversations with Lloyd Jones. One of the early policy decisions from all on the recruitment committee was to ensure that the players we signed really wanted to be at Northampton Town.

“We made Lloyd a very good and competitive offer but Lloyd’s agent has made it clear that his client was keen to stay in League 1.

“We didn’t want uncertainty at the club this pre-season and set a reasonable deadline for a decision and therefore Lloyd leaves with our best wishes.

"As you would expect, we always have plans for such eventualities and it was important this came to a conclusion.

“We are also expecting a conclusion to our discussions with Ryan Watson by the end of this week."

Away from the player discussions, another area of focus has been on the assistant manager role and Jon continued: “I am expecting to get an assistant manager tied up within the next week. I have spoken to some excellent candidates who all would have given us something, but we all feel the person we are close to securing is the best fit for the role and will help us in many ways.

“As with the players discussions, we have been working hard behind the scenes but we are also being patient to ensure we get the right people into the club who have both the ability and also the desire to win here at Northampton Town.”
