Northampton Town Women put in another impressive pre-season performance in a 3-0 victory over Boldmere St Michael’s on Sunday afternoon.
After a forced change in the fixtures, Northampton Town faced a tough test as they travelled to Hertfordshire to take on their opponents who play in the division above.
It did not take long for Northampton Town Women to take the lead, courtesy of new signing Rachel St John Mosse in the 25th minute. Gracie Williams turned with the ball in the middle of the pitch, then played it to Leah Cudone who was able to find her strike partner Mosse, who then slotted it into the corner of the net.
Mosse came close again shortly after the goal, but her left footed shot hit the post. The Cobblers did then convert through Alex Bartlett (pictured), a well-rehearsed corner routine found Bartlett who headed the ball into the back of the net, making it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.
Northampton Town Women continued their dominant display throughout the second half, with Charlie Cooper and Francesca Partridge coming close. Abbie Reboul and Alex Bartlett then both hit the bar with their strikes, both shots came within a few seconds as the game approached full time.
The win was then all but confirmed for the Cobblers in the 81st minute, when 16-year-old Chloe Martin scored the third, and her second goal in her debut pre-season with the Women’s team. A calm and composed finish from the youngster showed again, why Josh and Lou called her up from the development side.
Lou Barry said after the game; “This was a brilliant test for us and the girls stepped up and delivered again. Physically and tactically, we were spot on, and we felt we dominated the game. We could have and should have scored more.”
