Northampton Town returned to East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division action with a 3-0 win at home to Notts County on Sunday.

Gracie Williams, Leah Cudone and Rachael Mumford scored the Cobblers’ goals as they played their first league game in over two months.

Joint-managers Lou Barry and Josh Oldfield made four changes to the team that were knocked out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup third round in extra time by Lincoln City last week.

Jo Daniel, Eden Brown, Williams and Alex Dicks came into the side, whilst Alex Bartlett and Charlie Cooper dropped to the bench. Izzy McDonald and Beth Artemiou were also replaced.

The Cobblers were quick off the mark and took an early lead when Notts County failed to clear a corner and Williams found the back of the net from the edge of the area.

Cudone doubled the advantage after a quarter-of-an-hour, finishing into the top corner from Dicks’ through ball.

It was three midway through the half when Mumford nodded home Fay Noble’s wide free kick.

The game became more even, but the visitors were unable to trouble Daniel in the Cobblers goal before the break.

Their best chance of the match came on the hour mark when a shot flew across the face of goal.

The damage had been done in the first half, and the Cobblers saw out a comfortable win.

Barry and Oldfield’s side travel to Oughtibridge War Memorial in the New Year.
