MAN V FAT KETTERING LEAGUE SEASON 1: A SUCCESS STORY

A look back at the programme in 2021

31 December 2021

August saw the launch of the new Kettering Man V Fat league with six teams participating. Apart from a handful of players who had been part of the Northampton Man v Fat programme before, most participants were new to the concept.

Man v Fat is a programme designed to provide an alternative environment to losing weight and changing your lifestyle. Many people have been put off from joining gyms, not being able to access guidance or have the correct support system around them. Therefore, the Man v Fat programme is available to provide that very thing.

Over the course of a season participants got to know each other and formed positive relationships which led to the creation of a cohesive unit where they all meet up regularly to exercise or play football together on a different day. The team- based environment means they can hold each other accountable, be in regular contact with each other, share good practice and success stories.

The first season of the Kettering league has seen incredible success with many participants achieving their 5% targets. For some of the key statistics please see below:

Total amount of participants engaged: 67
Total Group loss in a 14-week season: 317.60kg
Average % of bodyweight loss: 4.49%
Number of participants achieving a 3% weight loss: 32
Number of participants hitting their 5% target: 23
Number of participants hitting their 10% target: 5
Number of participants hitting their 15% target: 1

Akshay Mistry, Sports Participation Officer & Man V Fat Lead said:
“Many of the participants have really enjoyed their first season, as the coach of the league helping the players create healthier habits and seeing the positive changes being made is really rewarding. The challenge now is to help the participants maintain this change and help them move towards a healthier lifestyle where their BMI is lower, and they feel like they can make good choices on a regular basis.”

Men aged 18+ with a BMI of over 27.5+ are eligible to sign up and begin their weight-loss journey with the group looking forward to the start of season 2.
