Northampton Town Women’s excellent form in pre-season continued as they won 7-0 away from home against Anstey Nomads as Sara Wait marked her 100th appearance for the club during Sunday afternoon’s friendly.

The inform Charlie Cooper started proceedings scoring in the first minute, finishing off a second ball from Emma Billenness’s well placed corner. Cooper was at it again 13 minutes later, after beating the defender, she played the ball across to Rachel Mumford whose well placed finish found the corner of the net.

The Cobblers made it 3-0 with 24 minutes on the clock, Cooper again at the heart of the action, this time setting up Alex Bartlett, who fired her shot into the top corner. Leah Cudone made it 4-0 at the half-hour mark, Eden Brown played the ball forward to Abbie Brewin, who lofted in a beautifully placed cross for Cudone to nod into the back of the net.

The unrelenting Cobblers side continued their first half dominance, making it 5-0 three minutes later. Charlie Cooper again showing why manager’s Lou and Josh have such confidence in the teenage striker. Abbie Reboul drove forward with the ball, then played an inch-perfect pass to the waiting Cooper who finished across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Leah Cudone grabbed her second in the 60th minute, substitute Rachael St John Mosse was through one on one with the goalkeeper when she squared it to Cudone making it 6-0. Northampton Town Women wrapped up the scoring five minutes before the full-time whistle, Georgia Tear picked up a Gracie Williams pass and finished into the corner.

Club Captain Alex Bartlett said after the game, “This was a good performance with some well worked goals today and another clean sheet and another win as we work our way to the start of the season. It’s great to see the hard work paying off.”

Elsewhere Northampton Town Women’s development team drew 2-2 away to MK Dons FC Women, goals from Alex Dicks and Francesca Partridge ensured Alex de Boer’s side continued their good pre-season form.
