JON BRADY HAPPY WITH OPENING DAY SUCCESS

The views of the Cobblers boss

7 August 2021

Jon Brady was a happy man following the opening day victory over Port Vale, Benny Ashley-Seal’s goal midway through the first half sealing a 1-0 win in front of just under 6,000 fans at Sixfields.

“We are happy to get three points on the board and it’s great to get them in front of our fans,” he said.

“You could feel the energy and the roar from the supporters today and I’m really glad we could send them home happy.

“We haven’t had this buzz for 18 months and it’s just great we could get the win for the fans today.

“It was a battle but we got a goal at the right time. It wasn’t easy for us to get a foothold in the game but it was a good finish from Benny and I’m really pleased for him to get the winning goal. He has worked really hard in pre-season, we are only looking forward and he has come back with a renewed vigour.

“There were a lot of positives today but we’ve got a lot we can still work on. We are a group that is going to be learning a lot. We can be better on the ball than we were today but any first game of the season is always going to be a bit of a scrap and a fight where no one wants to make a mistake.

“We will enjoy this win but we will just take each game as it comes. August is a big month and we will attack each game in a positive fashion.”
