JON BRADY PRAISES SQUAD AFTER COBBLERS KNOCK OUT CHAMPIONSHIP OPPOSITION

Jon Brady praised his squad as he reflected on the 2-1 Carabao Cup first round win at Coventry City, on-loan Spurs striker Kion Etete bagging a brace on his debut as the Cobblers came from behind to knock out Championship opposition.

“It was a strong performance and to come from behind against a Championship side shows real spirit, fight, courage and endeavour,” he said.

“We started off a bit shaky but we adjusted our shape and grew into the game.

“We said at half-time we needed to be a bit braver to control the spaces and once we did that and stepped on to the game we looked a real threat.

“Even in our poorer moments in the first half we created some good chances on the break we just needed to be a bit more clinical.

“We showed our flexibility tonight and that we are adaptable. We grew in confidence after a few chances and once we were a bit braver in our shape out of possession we really took it on.

“We’ve got a good group, they are really tight and they all push each other on.

“Kion is a young man learning his trade, he’ll have strong nights like tonight and he will have bumps in the road but tonight is a strong start for him.

“It was great to see the fans here again and it sends a real tingle down the spine but this is just another step for us and Colchester on Saturday will be a totally different game again.”
