Jon Brady is set to make changes for the Carabao Cup tie at Coventry City but Jack Sowerby and Michael Harriman remain sidelined.
“Jack and Michael should be back in about a week,” he said.
“We will make some changes for Wednesday night especially with the quick turnaround to Colchester but we will definitely be putting out a competitive side to try and win the game.
“Some players need game time but we are taking the competition seriously. We have got strength in depth, we’ve been conscious of trying to get two players for each position and we have also got players who are flexible.
“We know we are in for a big challenge against Coventry but it’s one we are really looking forward to.”
