GODDARD REFLECTS ON VICTORY OVER POSH FOR THE UNDER 18S

A look back at the weekend EFL Youth Alliance action

26 April 2021

Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Shane Goddard says Northampton Town Under 18s deserve a lot of credit after their 2-0 win away to Peterborough United in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League.

Liam Cross and Ayo Lekuti scored for the young Cobblers on Saturday.

Speaking after the match, Goddard said: “We’re really happy with this result and the boys deserve a lot of credit.

“It was a really disciplined performance and we controlled the game.

“We made sure we were in it and we took our opportunities when they came.”

The Cobblers youngsters remain in second place, one point behind leaders Southend United with a game in hand.

Goddard added: “Ultimately, each match is about the boys rising to challenges, meeting objectives and putting in good individual and collective performances.

“We’ve put in really good performances and had good results over the last couple of months.

“I want us to put in as good a performance as possible against Stevenage, and we’ll see where that leaves us.”

The youth team travel to the Lamex Stadium in a fortnight, before visiting Cambridge United in the final fixture of their campaign the following week.
