Northampton Town Women began their league campaign with a 3-0 victory at home against Rise Park Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
The Cobblers took an early lead with a goal in the first two minutes; Francesca Partridge played a ball through to Gracie Williams who smashed it into the back of the net to give Northampton Town the perfect start.
Their lead then doubled after Abbie Brewin won a 50/50 challenge in midfield, broke forward and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards, making it 2-0 on 18 minutes.
Just four minutes later the Cobblers added their third. Partridge striking from distance after cutting inside to put Northampton Town in full control.
3-0 was the score as the sides headed in to the break, but the Cobblers struggled to add to their tally as play resumed. It was a scrappy second half, with both sides getting frustrated. Northampton were then reduced to 10 players after Fay Noble was shown a straight red card after a coming together with an opposition player.
The Cobblers saw out the game to win 3-0 with the early goals doing the damage. A good start for the Cobblers, but there’s plenty more to come. on Sunday they host St Ives in the First Round of the Women's FA Cup.
