NORTHAMPTON TOWN LADIES MAKE WOMEN'S FA CUP PROGRESS

Northampton Town Ladies 5 Haverhill Rovers 0 - the match report

7 September 2020

Northampton Town Women made it through to the next round of the Women's FA Cup after a comfortable 5-0 win at home to Haverhill Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

After a slow start the Cobblers took the lead on 22 minutes. A through ball from Abbie Brewin put Charlie Cooper in on goal forcing a double save only for the rebound to fall to Emma Billenness to make it 1-0.

It didn’t take long for the Cobblers to double their advantage. Some fine individual play in the middle of the park from Fay Noble feed Billenness on the left hand side and her cross/shot beat the keeper for 2-0.

2-0 it stayed as the teams went in at the break but it was soon three after the restart.  Cooper found herself some space inside the box and got herself off the mark with the Cobblers third of the afternoon.
Just past the hour mark Noble capped off a player of the match performance with a fierce strike from the edge of the area to make it four. A few minutes later, Georgia Tear made it five after good work down the left from Bianca Luttman.

An injury to a Haverhill Rovers player brought the game to an unexpected early close with nine minutes still on the clock. But the Cobblers still secured the win and a place in the next round of the FA Cup on the 20th September.

Northampton Town have their final game of their pre-season schedule next Sunday afternoon away at Oxford City, and will be looking to make it six wins in six friendlies before returning back to competitive action.
