Northampton Town Chairman Kelvin Thomas said the club have held very positive discussions with the Supporters Trust over the last few weeks and is delighted to have received the Trust's backing for the club's East Stand plans.
"We had some very positive meetings with the Trust and a lot of discussion took place and a lot of things were talked about," he said.
"The meetings were good. The Trust have been able to see everything, we have explained why what we are doing is in the best interests of the club and the Trust board have offered us their backing and their support and have agreed it is in the best interests of the club.
"That is pleasing, we still need to proceed with the Council but this highlights we are working in the best interests of the club.
"We will talk to the Council about what information we can release publicly and what we can't, because we do want to put more information out there to the wider fan base but it is really good news that as a club we are talking as one voice and we are working to get something done that will benefit the club and supporters.
"With the challenges Covid brings for the club, now would be a really good time to push forward on a deal and that is what we are trying to do. It is really important we push on with things.
"We have had some good conversations with the Council too, we are waiting on them to come back to us with their response to our proposals but we want to move forward with things.
"The conversations with the Trust were really good. We took some takeaways from that and we have to accept our responsibility that the relationship suffered. Our ongoing communication needs to be better and if we can do that it will be better for everyone and that's important."
