Cobblers boss Keith Curle says Saturday’s Carabao Cup first round tie with Cardiff City will be a fantastic test for his side in the first competitive match of the new season.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to go out and see where we are at,” he said.
“We’ve got some new additions and it’s important we embed those players into the team and make sure we have our fundamentals right.
“We want to be an attacking team who presses the ball all over the park but to do that everybody has to be on the same page.
“Saturday is a great opportunity for the players to grab the shirt for the first time in a competitive game and really stake their claim to be involved when the league season begins.”
