The Northampton Town Women's development team are off the mark in the league, picking up their first 3 points of the season, in a 3-0 victory away to Moulton Ladies.
Bella Knight had a bright start to the game, forcing some good saves from the Moulton Ladies keeper early on.
Northampton again came close through Mia Malpass 26 minutes in, but it was Esther Evans who opened the scoring in the 37th minute for the Cobblers. A through ball from Jacqui Speed found Evans, who hit a low cross towards the front post which the Moulton Ladies keeper failed to control, resulting in the Cobblers taking the lead.
Daisy Brown was outstanding in the first half, putting in a solid first half display at the back.
It did not take long in the second half for Northampton Town to test the Moulton Ladies defence. Jasmine Sawyer played a through ball to Bella Knight which was well saved by the Moulton Ladies goalkeeper.
Northampton made it 2-0 in the 59th minute after Chloe Martin delivered a great cross into the Moulton penalty area, where Megan Board was then able to fire a shot under the Moulton Ladies keeper.
Northampton continued to attack, striking the woodwork twice in quick succession, with Jasmine Sawyer hitting the post and Mollie Marshall’s long-range effort cannoning off the cross bar.
Marshall however, got her goal in the 84th minute, ensuring Northampton went home with all 3 points, after a cross from Megan Board which was then well struck into the back of the net by Marshall.
Manager Frankie Smith said after the game: “We kept the ball well, we moved the ball well and we got the results from it in the end.
“The work ethic was really good, we played on the front foot and we created loads of chances, it was a good all round performance.”
Northampton Town Women's development squad will host Newport Pagnell next week.
