MARK MARSHALL SAYS SQUAD ARE IN A GOOD PLACE AHEAD OF BUSY FESTIVE MONTH

Winger pleased with recent progress

Mark Marshall says the squad feel they are heading in the right direction and are in a good place ahead of a busy festive month.

The Cobblers have a free weekend before a run of nine games between December 1st and January 2nd, and before he looked ahead, Marshall reflected on a successful week on the road at Burton and Rochdale.

"It was a hard fought point at Rochdale. We had a game plan, we stuck to it and it worked really well," he said.

"We restricted Rochdale to very little. We stuck to our shape and for us to be slightly disappointed with a point - while being a new side in this league - shows the progress we are making.

"Their free kick was a good strike and credit to their lad for that. We will look at what we could have done and look to improve for next time.

"You would always take four points from two away games and we have had a good week."

Now it is time to look ahead, and Marshall says the squad are prepared for the challenges that lie ahead against Fleetwood Town and Doncaster Rovers.

"We have two home games coming up now. No game in League 1 is easy, anyone can beat anyone and we will prepare well for Tuesday night and see if we can get a good result," he said.

"I am pleased with how the last two games have gone. Competition for places is tough, you have to bide your time sometimes and then when you get your chance you have to try and take it and that is what I will always do.

"The last 8 or 9 months have been fantastic for us. Last time we had supporters we were a League 2 club, now we are a League 1 club and I am sure they will give the boys a great reception when they come back.

"We will continue to take things one game at a time, we are making progress but we need to keep pushing and driving on and looking to try and get three points out of each game.

"Our next challenge is to beat the top sides in this division but we will never look beyond the next game. We are targeting taking points in every game we play."
