Cobblers boss Keith Curle says there is room for improvement after Saturday's win at Wigan Athletic as his side prepare to welcome Milton Keynes Dons to the PTS Academy Stadium.
“It’s been identified that we have given too many goals away by giving possession away, sometimes needlessly,” he said.
“It was a game of two halves on Saturday and I think you are going to find that a lot in this division this season. There were lots of pleasing things to come out of the first half but you saw in the second half that we are very much still learning.
“I’m realistic and I know the challenges we face this year, I think we should have a few more points on the board and our performances have merited that but we are still learning about this division and coming together as a group.
“We are still trying to get the right blend of work ethic and expressing ourselves, we need to tighten up as a defensive unit and we’ve found to our cost at times that teams at this level maybe don’t need as many opportunities to score as maybe they do in League 2.”
