Following on from the EFL statement made today, Northampton Town confirm they were part of a video conference call involving all League 2 clubs.
At that meeting, the EFL asked for an indicative view from clubs on how to achieve completion of the 2019/20 season and all 24 clubs on the call felt that the safety considerations and financial implications of such were insurmountable for clubs to complete the remaining games of the season.
Please note this was still only an indicative view and there will be further work completed by the EFL in regard to League 1 and the Championship so that a formal vote can take place for all the leagues in the coming weeks.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “Today’s meeting was good as it has started to give us some clarity on the conclusion of the 2019/20 season so that we can start to plan for the future. Obviously there are a lot of details that will still need to be finalised, but we can now start to see the road ahead.
“We know the EFL have a lot of work to do, so we will patiently await the outcome of that work, but as a club we will continue to plan for all eventualities.
“The club’s response to this crisis has been magnificent and it has really shown us to be a pillar in the community. Our thoughts remain with those who have been and are currently affected by the virus, but we thank everyone who has supported us during this time and hopefully we can now also start putting the blocks in place for recovery.”
More details will follow once they are available.
