THE CARR YEARS: PART THREE

The third part of our feature with Graham Carr, reflecting on his time as both a player and a manager with the club

Graham Carr enjoyed significant success as both a player and a manager of Northampton Town. In our latest feature, we caught up with Graham to look back and share his memories.

Today we focus on the fantastic 1986/87 season when the Cobblers stormed to the Division 4 title.

"It was a great night when we beat Crewe to win the league," he said.

"We worked hard for that and we trained hard. We did feel the pressure of the teams chasing us. Preston used to play on a Friday night and they would win to put the pressure on us for the Saturday but we held on and won the league. It was a deserved title win.

"We had a young group, we had a lot of pace and they were good players. We were very fit. We trained in Abington Park and also used to run on the running track at Timken and the rest was on ball work and team shape."
