Club Captain Nicky Adams has said the whole squad have been lifted by the news that the Cobblers could be involved in the play offs.
League 2 clubs voted to end the season but proceed with the play offs, and subject to ratification from the FA and EFL Board, they are likely to happen in mid-late June.
"The news that there could well be play offs has come as a welcome boost to everyone," he said.
"Hopefully everyday life can start returning gradually to normal, and having got ourselves in to the play offs we have given ourselves a chance of promotion. You would always prefer to end the season in the natural way, but if not then this is probably the next best solution and all of the lads are buzzing, we are just waiting for things to be clarified, but as it stands we are really excited for the play offs.
"The news has given us a massive lift. If you are mid-table or bottom half it is tough to stay motivated but we always felt we would get a chance to go up. We are training on our own and it is tough, but we have stayed focussed and we have been keeping our fingers crossed. It is not official but we are waiting and desperate for that call to say it is all on.
"The biggest downside is that the supporters won't be there to try and cheer us over the line. It will be on TV but that won't be the same. But, it is up to us to get the job done now and we are determined to do that for those supporters who will be with us in spirit but not in person. We are right in the mix and we have a chance to get over the line for them.
"It will be difficult to get straight in to the intensity of a play off semi final but it is the same for everyone. It will all come down to what happens on the day but we will be ready and prepared. Every team in those play offs has a chance, it will be a good battle but we are excited for it and we will be ready. The boys are buzzing and playing in games to get promoted is fantastic.
"I've seen a few things about players up and down the country saying they don't feel it is safe to play and we understand their circumstances. We respect their decision but from our point of view we are all ready, willing and prepared to play. We are together, everyone is on the same page and this is a real opportunity for us to do something special for the club and the supporters. T believe it is safe to play and this gives us the chance to do something very special. It is very exciting for us."
