Ryan Watson said the travelling Cobblers support played a crucial role in Sunday's 4-2 Emirates FA Cup third round win at Burton Albion.
Around 1,500 Northampton Town fans made the trip, and Watson said their backing was a key factor in the result.
"The fans were superb," he said.
"They turned it in to a home game and they helped drive us on. With that result and performance, we have proved we can match and beat teams from League 1 and that is a huge boost to our confidence.
"We got off to a great start in the tie and although we had to defend in the second half I thought we saw off the threat from Burton well.
"Our fourth goal was important and it took the sting out of the game. Burton are a good side but we were very clinical and we took the chances we created.
"Sam Hoskins delivered a great cross for my goal and he bounced it off my head really! For me it was about timing my run and I did that.
"My match fitness is getting there. I feel like I still need game time but I am getting stronger and stronger all the time."
