Northampton Town manager Keith Curle says that Morgan Roberts deserved to be recalled from his impressive loan spell at Banbury and, like all young players, he is very much in his thoughts.

“Morgan Roberts has always been in and around the first team along with the likes of Scott Pollock and Jay Williams," said the Cobblers boss.

“Scott has been a little bit closer and has stayed with us and there is an excellent environment here for those players to learn and develop but part of the development for these young players is going out on loan to get that competitive football.

“One thing you need with attack minded players like Morgan is for them to get that game time and he’s done that. He’s gained a little bit of confidence creating and scoring goals and that helps as well.”

Curle also provided a fitness update on Alan McCormack.

“Alan was not far away but not quite close enough last weekend,” he said.

“We know we have to treat Alan well when he gets an injury and we probably take a little bit longer with him than we would with some players because we know the importance of getting him back fit.

“We don’t want one injury to lead to another but the bottom line is we have the best interests of Alan at heart.

“We want him playing because we know what he gives us but we won’t take any risks in bringing him back before he’s ready."
