Northampton Town's youth team took on Cambridge United at Moulton College on Saturday in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division.
The Cobblers suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat with coach Jon Brady disappointed with his side's finishing.
"We were excellent in terms of the chances we created but Cambridge were more clinical," said the under 18s coach.
"I was really disappointed with the first goal but after that we really restricted Cambridge and they only had two more chances in the rest of the game.
"We got back into the game through Josh Tomlinson and we had some real guilt-edged chances to score more goals but Cambridge cleared a few off the line and we should have been more clinical.
"We were unfortunate but at the same time we wasted a lot of chances and the game was won and lost in both boxes."
