KEITH CURLE PRAISES PLAYER PATHWAY AHEAD OF ACADEMY AND FOOTBALL & EDUCATION PROGRAMME DAY

The Cobblers boss on the club's young players

7 February 2020

Ahead of Saturday's Academy and Football & Education Programme Day, manager Keith Curle has praised the club's player pathway.

The Cobblers boss has handed over 100 first team appearances to players who have come through that pathway and he is delighted to have done so.

"Scott Pollock, from the Football & Education programme has played against the likes of Wayne Rooney twice in the last couple of weeks and that is great for his development," he said.

"We have got a good production line here and that shows a good connection between the Academy and the education programme and the first team. We have a trusting relationship with Jon Brady and the Academy staff. It is all about speaking the same language and understanding what we as a first team group need.

"Sometimes Jon will send us a player or two up who come up and stay with the first team group, at other times they will spend some time with us but might not be quite ready and so they will go back to the Academy to work on certain things but it is all about having a consistent pathway where the demands expected are very high.

"We are proud that we have selected players from the Academy and Football & Education programme so often. We don't just hand first team places out, they have to be earned and it is a tribute to our player pathway that so many young players are involved."

As part of Saturday's Academy and Football & Education Programme Day, there will be a pre-match collection, special features in the match programme and a half time lap of the pitch by the club's young players.
