Northampton Town Women 2 Notts County Women 0 - the match report

31 August 2020

Northampton Town Women made it four wins in four pre-season games with a 2-0 victory over Notts County Women on Sunday afternoon.

The Cobblers got off to a great start after a stunning goal from 16-year-old striker Charlie Cooper on 14 minutes. The ball fell to Cooper on the half volley on the edge of the box, and she smashed it it into the top corner for her first goal for the club.

Notts County came close to an equaliser on 20 minutes; a through ball saw their striker in on goal with keeper Jo Daniel who pulled out a smart save to keep the Cobblers lead intact.

Just before the half way mark the Cobblers doubled their lead. Club captain Alex Bartlett played a measured through ball for Leah Cudone to latch on to and slot past the Notts County keeper to make it 2-0.

The second half saw some good chances for both sides. Cudone almost added her second of the afternoon on 54 minutes, just striking the ball over the bar. A few minutes later Notts County came close with a dangerous ball down the right hand side, but it was well defended and the Cobblers hung on for a 2-0 win.

Northampton Town have another busy week ahead; a penultimate pre-season friendly at home on Tuesday evening against AFC Dunstable, followed by their first competitive game of the season; an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Sunday afternoon against Haverhill Rovers.
