NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN CONTINUE FINE PRE-SEASON FORM

Details from Sunday's win at Redditch

24 August 2020

The winning streak continued for Northampton Town Women with a resolute 2-1 win away at Redditch Women in their latest pre-season friendly on Sunday afternoon.

A brilliant start from the Cobblers saw them take the lead on 18 minutes after Alex Bartlett directed a header into the back of the net from an Emma Billenness corner.

Redditch came close to an equaliser just before half time after striking the cross bar from a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Just before the hour mark the Cobblers scored again from another corner. This time Abbie Brewin swung the ball in from the right for Sara Wait to tap in and double the lead.

Redditch managed to get a goal back in the final minute of the game from their own set piece, but it was the Cobblers who held on to secure a 2-1 victory.

Northampton Manager Lou Barry, said after the game:

“As pre-season games go, that was brilliant! Going to a team who beat everything in front of them last year and putting in that performance is extremely pleasing. We are only 3 games in but I am loving what’s going on with this team!”

The Cobblers are at home to Herts Vipers on Sunday afternoon, and will be looking to make it four wins in four games and continue their pre-season winning streak.
