COLIN WEST - 'PLAYERS GOT THE RUN OUT THEY NEEDED'

Assistant manager on Tuesday's practice match with West Brom under 23s

Assistant manager Colin West said the players got what they needed from Tuesday's behind closed doors practice match against West Bromwich Albion under 23s.

"It was a decent game in strong winds which spoilt things a little but it was a good run out that the players needed," he said.

"It is important to look after some players and get minutes in to others so we are still making plenty of changes. We are moving in the right direction and seeing signs that the match fitness is building.

"The trialists have done well in training and we have now had a look at them in a few matches. It is always tough for trialists but we are always open to giving players opportunities to show what they can do.

"We have our targets in the transfer market and we are talking to a number of players at the moment.

"The competitive season is coming up, the league starts on September 12th but we have a couple of cup games before then. It is strange to start with two cup games but it is the same for all clubs.

"We will look to bed things down a little more against Luton. There will still be some rotation to share the minutes around but we will see more of our planning in place."
