Cobblers boss Keith Curle wished Ryan Watson well as he reflected on Tuesday night’s Leasing.com Trophy tie with Peterborough United, confirming the midfielder suffered a broken collarbone in the 2-0 defeat.
“Ryan has broken his collarbone and Matt Warburton has a nasty gash on his ankle,” he said.
“Ryan is going to need surgery and we will find out more on Matty on Wednesday. Charlie Goode and Jordan Turnbull also both missed the game tonight through injury and they will be assessed as the week goes on.
“It’s a real shame for Ryan because I felt he was just starting to find his feet and he was really enjoying his football. He’s going to be out for a period of time now and it’s going to be a lot of hard work for him to get back fit but he needs to treat it as a challenge.
“I thought we started the game brightly and caused Peterborough a few problems. We had two very good chances and if we score those then it’s a different game.
“I was disappointed with the goals we conceded, especially the second one. It was good individual play from the lad but you aren’t going to win games when you give easy goals away.
“Goals change games and Peterborough are a good team. Sometimes I think we tried to overplay and we need to get the team mentality we showed on Saturday right throughout the squad.”
