CLUB STAGE BIGGEST EVER FEMALE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT AS PROGRAMME CONTINUES TO EXPAND

29 October 2019

The first fixture of the season for the Northampton Town Elite Girls squad took place on the Monday of half term with Swansea City, Swindon Town and West Bromwich Albion attending.

Over 230 girls from 17 teams took part, meaning this was our biggest ever tournament to date as the Northampton Town female football programme goes from strength to strength.

The Cobblers girls have only been training together for 6 weeks but they performed very well in their first tournament.

The day was not just about the playing aspect but also about giving other opportunities to the club's students. 5 Football & Education programme students gained work experience as referees, assistant referees while others also shadowed our coaches. The tournament also offered experiences to newly qualified referees to help them achieve their full qualifications. Well done to all involved.

It was also great to see Northampton Town Ladies senior team player Chloe Atkins at the tournament. Chloe was supporting our U16’s as she starts her coaching career with the club.

Our thanks are due to the coaches, parents and players from all teams as well as all of the students and match officials.

Thank you too to Wellingborough Old Grammarians FC for their support and our gratitude is also due to all of the travelling teams. The next fixture for the Northampton Town Girls will be in February.
