PROUD McCORMACK ON VERGE OF MILESTONE APPEARANCE

Midfielder set to play 500th game of his career

28 November 2019

If selected, midfielder Alan McCormack will pass a huge personal milestone on Sunday.

Should the midfielder be selected by manager Keith Curle, he will make his 500th career appearance.

In an interview that can be read in full in Sunday's programme, McCormack admitted he will be proud to reach the 500 mark.

“It’s something that has been in my mind for over a year now and although it has taken me a little bit longer to get there than I would have hoped because of a few little niggles I’m extremely proud,” he said.

“I have had to work hard but I know it’s something that not every player achieves and it will be great to join the 500 Club.

“I travel in a lot with Joe Martin and we still speak about that buzz around games. I still enjoy the battle with the opposition and I still get that amazing feeling when you win.

“I am probably a lot more relaxed now going into games but I definitely still get that buzz.

“The biggest drive for me now is promotions and I want to achieve as many promotions as I can. That was definitely something I looked at in the summer and I knew Northampton had that ambition.

“I want my kids to see as many promotions as possible and the commitment and hard work you need to put in to achieve that.

“The dressing room here is superb and everybody is pushing each other on but we need to keep that going.

“With each week that goes by I think the belief and the standards have gone up massively in training and there is a real work ethic amongst the players and staff. There is still a long way to go and we need to keep those standards high.”
