The Cobblers moved up into the play-off places in Sky Bet League 2 on Saturday following a 4-1 home win over Crewe Alexandra and boss Keith Curle felt his side executed their game plan perfectly.
“We had a game plan and to play against Crewe you need to be brave,” he said.
“We made a slight tactical switch at the back and I thought Scott Wharton was excellent.
“Scott has had a difficult week, his Grandfather passed away on Sunday and he put in a performance that I’m sure his grandfather and his whole family would have been extremely proud of.
“We nullified Crewe to a large extent although saying that it could have been 3-3 at half-time. We took our chances and we were physically strong. We knew we could cause them problems from set pieces and that’s something we worked on.
“We knew what we needed to do today and we did it. The team was all on the same page and when that happens the rewards are there.
“The crowd are a massive part of what we are trying to do and they really acknowledged the players effort today. We are here to be successful, we want to the players to work hard but enjoy it at the same time.”
