New signing Matt Warburton is excited about the step up to being a full-time football professional with Northampton Town.
“I’ve never had this opportunity before and I’m extremely excited,” he said.
“Ever since taking semi-professional football seriously this has been an opportunity I’ve wanted to take and to be here at a club with big ambitions is extremely exciting for me.
“Not being arrogant, but I think I’ve had a pretty good season and I think there was some interest but this was the opportunity I really wanted to pursue.2
The move to Northampton Town and becoming a full time professional is a big career change for Warburton, but it is one he is relishing.
“It’s going to be a big change for me, I’m leaving my career as a teacher, which I love doing but I’m leaving for the right reasons," he admitted.
"I’ve been in teaching for a little while now and I have my degree so worst case scenario that is something I can go back to but hopefully that won’t be the case and I can be in football for a long time.
“It is a dream is to be a professional footballer, it’s been mine ever since I can remember and I’m going to give it everything.
“I had a wonderful time at Stockport, it’s a wonderful club with fantastic people and fantastic fans and it’s incredibly sad to leave there but when this opportunity came up to play in the EFL at a club with the stature of Northampton it’s one I couldn’t turn down. I couldn’t have been at a better club to prepare me for league football.”
