Former Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers midfielder to join from July 1st

15 May 2019

Northampton Town have signed former Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers midfielder Chris Lines on a 2 year contract, starting from July 1st.

Lines began his career with Rovers, making nearly 200 appearances before playing 53 times in a two year stay at Sheffield Wednesday, helping the Owls win promotion to the Championship during his time at Hillsborough.

He then spent two years at Port Vale and made more than 70 appearances before returning to Bristol Rovers in 2015 and in the last four years he has played a further 155 times for the Gas, scoring 11 goals. He achieved three promotions across his two spells at the Memorial Stadium.

"I am delighted to bring Chris to the club," said manager Keith Curle.

"I think his attributes will really help us. He has a lot of experience and he also has a lot of quality on the ball and can help to unlock defences. He is a very cultured player.

"He is a midfielder who can create chances and set things up. He also has a quality set play delivery.

"With a number of young players in the squad, we will need our share of experience for those players to look up to and Chris is ideal to fit that bill. He has won promotion four times in his career, he knows what is required and he is hungry for more success.

"Chris has a first class work ethic and attitude, I think he will prove an excellent addition and he very much fits in with the culture we will have within the squad next season."
