Northampton Town have launched a brand new eSports team.
The new Cobblers team will be playing as Northampton Town on FIFA using the online game mode Pro Clubs. Each player in the Northampton Town team has been created by the esports team and will be controlled by a different member of the esports team.
The Cobblers esports team will be playing on the VPG (Virtual Pro Gaming) web site in their league against other professional football clubs eSports teams such as Oxford United, Rotherham United, Scunthorpe United, QPR and Fleetwood Town.
Northampton Town are being led by supporter Jake Cave who has played competitive Pro Clubs for around 3 years with the squad currently made up as below:
Goalkeeper: Nick Rix (Rixcee)
Defenders: Darren Steedman (Sparkys army) and Thomas White (Kazavedo)
Midfielders: Sam Robinson (SJPR)
Strikers: Charlie Smith (Carlos x) and Jake Cave (Caveani)
The Northampton Town eSports team will be holding open trials for anyone who wants to join the team to fill the remaining places in the squad.
The Cobblers will be predominantly competing in the VPG on a weekly basis playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays but there will be other tournaments on other sites that the squad will also be taking part in. The squad also plan to attend any LAN (Local Area Network - where all of the consoles are in one room and everyone attends a venue rather than playing from the comfort of their own home) tournaments that are held throughout the country.
Some of the squad will be appearing in the FIFA GameZone on home matchdays while you can follow the Cobblers eSports team on the following social media sites.
The Northampton Town eSports team's games will be live streamed on Twitch.tv and then uploaded to the YouTube channel after.
The squad will launch initially as an Xbox team, but will be looking to launch a PS4 team in due course.
