STEVE ARNOLD - 'I FEEL MY GAME HAS GONE TO THE NEXT LEVEL IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS'

Cobblers keeper feels his best years are just ahead of him

Steve Arnold has spoken about his upcoming battle with David Cornell for the number one shirt next season.

”David is a very good keeper,” he said.

“It is a weird position being a goalkeeper because you do become close to the person you are competing against.

“You train with them day in day out and whoever gets the nod for that first game of the season will deserve it and for the other person it’s about then waiting for that chance to come along.

“It’s quite a unique position and it is tough but you have got to really want it.

“I think you can both raise each other’s game and hopefully we can gee each other on.

“Working hard should be a minimum requirement and that is something I have always done regardless of the situation and I will continue to do that.

“In the last year to 18 months I’ve felt my game has gone to the next level and as a keeper aged 29 I am probably in my prime.

“I like to command my box, I like coming to claim crosses and I think that is quite a big attribute to have in this league.

“This is a club I feel I can really flourish at and I look forward to doing so."
