KEITH CURLE EXPECTING TOUGH COMPETITION FOR GOALKEEPING SPOT

Cobblers boss says both keepers can spur each other on

Keith Curle is expecting a competitive battle between David Cornell and new signing Steve Arnold for the number one spot next season.

“Steve’s attributes are slightly different to David’s and he is going to add good competition for the number one spot,” he said.

“He is a good size and he can dominate the six-yard box. He has a presence about him and I think he will benefit from working full-time with our goalkeeping coach Dan Watson.

“He can still improve and develop and hopefully we can get the best out of him.

Speaking about another new signing, midfielder Ryan Watson, Curle added:

“Ryan is technically and tactically everything I am looking for. He can be a possession based midfielder but he can also get on the front foot and operate in the final third.

“We want him to be a forward thinking player and the one thing he can add to his game is more goals. I think we can get the best out of his technique in the final third.

“We want to be known as a team that operates in the final third, when we do get the ball we want to be an attacking threat and I think Ryan can open doors for us. He has got a good range of passing and he is a very accomplished player.

“He is another block we are putting in place and he fits in nicely with the personnel we have got in the building.

“He knows the club and he has got good memories of his time here and he is another player who has that hunger and desire for us to further his development and be part of a club operating at the right end of the division.

“He wants to be involved in the environment we are trying to create and that is big for us.

“The new training facilities up at Moulton are taking shape and we want it to be an environment where the players want to come to improve."
