YOUTH TEAM EDGED OUT IN EFL CUP SOUTHERN SEMI FINAL

EFL Youth Alliance Cup southern section semi final

Northampton Town's youth team travelled to Exeter City on Saturday for the EFL Youth Alliance Cup southern section semi final.

After going behind in the first half Scott Pollock (who under the terms of his work experience is able to play for both the youth team and his work experience team, St Neots Town)  scored from the penalty spot to get the Cobblers back on level terms but the home side went on to win the game 2-1.

"We're disappointed to go out at this stage of the competition having come so far but we had another very young side out with players involved with the first team squad and out on work experience," said under 18s coach Jon Brady.

"We went a goal down early but we came back well and Michael Harding was fouled for the penalty.

"We were in the ascendancy after that and dominated the rest of the first half.

"Exeter took the chance they had in the second half and we just couldn't quite get ourselves back into it again after that.”
