Northampton Town Ladies were at home to Peterborough Northern Star in the quarter final of the Northants Women’s County Cup.
Northern Star play in the league above the Cobblers in the Eastern Premier League but Cobblers were keen to retain the trophy they won last season.
The two sides met at the start of the season in the Women's FA Cup, a tie that finished 4-4 with Northern Star winning on penalties.
The visitors started the stronger team and created chances early on and they took a 1-0 lead in to the half time interval.
The second half saw the Cobblers improve and they started to take the game to Northern Star.
However, Northern Star went 2-0 ahead midway through the second half but the game became scrappy with the referee showing a red card and two yellow cards.
With the visitors down to 10, the Cobblers seized their opportunity to push forward and were rewarded with a goal from Reanne Mullen but unfortunately it was all too late for Cobblers who were beaten 2-1.
