KEITH CURLE MONITORING FITNESS OF SEVERAL PLAYERS

Preparations for the visit of Morecambe on Saturday

24 January 2019

The Cobblers are monitoring the fitness of several players ahead of the weekend visit of Morecambe to the PTS Academy Stadium, kick off 2pm.

John-Joe O’Toole, Ash Taylor, Sam Foley and Dean Bowditch all missed Saturday’s game at Cambridge through injury while Shaun McWilliams and George Cox both had to be substituted after picking up knocks.

Midfielder Joe Powell, signed on loan from West Ham United earlier this week, is however added to the squad.

“Injuries are part and parcel of the game and you just have to deal with it,” said boss Keith Curle.

“Most of the injuries we’ve had have been contact injuries and it is very difficult to counter that with the way that we play and the way we train.

“Injuries happen but with that come opportunities for other players and you look at some of the players who got an opportunity last Saturday.

“It’s excellent for the football club that we are able to put young players into the squad and into the team with confidence. That shows the good work that is being done and if a player is good enough I will play them.

“I think there will still be players coming in and some players going the other way as well.

“As I’ve said before this is a difficult window and one that I’m not prepared to gamble in but when we get some of those injured players back it’s still a very competitive squad.”
