Cobblers boss Keith Curle says he does expect further activity both in and out in this January transfer window.
“There is always something on the horizon and this is a very busy period,” he said.
“Every minute of the day we are trying to find the right piece of the jigsaw that can improve us but it’s quality rather than quantity.
“I could easily fill the changing room with players - I could get 30 of them in now if you wanted - but this window is one where in my opinion football clubs and managers can become unstuck by reacting to the pressure of needing to bring bodies in.
“I’m of the mindset that the players I bring in are ones I need to have seen a lot of and I need to know a lot about. I have to be sure they have the right characteristics and I’m not going to gamble with somebody else’s money.
“I’m not going to gamble with the dynamics we’ve got in the changing room by bringing in players who don’t have the qualities that I think we need in the short, medium and long-term.
“I’ve got medium to long-term targets that I’d like to bring in now but I know the market value and I’m not going to pay over the odds for those players.
“It’s how I want to do business and I’m not prepared to over-spend just because it’s January.”
