After two weeks without a game, Northampton Town Ladies were back in action, playing host to Lutterworth Athletic Ladies. The two sides last met back in October when the Cobblers were 3-1 victors.
The Cobblers started the first half brightly and dominated early on. It took just 6 minutes before they took the lead when a pass from Abbie Reboul found the league's top goal scorer Emma Dunmore who slotted the ball home for 1-0.
The Cobblers kept up the pressure and only 3 minutes later Georgie Powell’s through ball found Emma Dunmore who put the Cobblers 2-0 ahead.
Lutterworth pulled a goal back after 30 minutes, ensuring the Town lead was a narrow 2-1 advantage at half time.
The second half was a much more even contest and saw chances for both sides.
After 73 minutes a shot from Alex Bartlett was on course for the bottom corner of the Lutterworth goal only for the keeper to parry the ball away but a very alert Abbie Reboul seized the opportunity to fire the ball past the keeper for her first Cobblers goal of the season.
On 86 minutes the Cobblers conceded a penalty which allowed Lutterworth to set up a nervy last few minutes but the Cobblers saw the game out to take all 3 points and remain top of the league.
Northampton Town would like to thank all supporters for their continued support throughout this season so far! It is always great to see the high five girls!!
