ATTENDANCES UP COMPARED TO SAME PERIOD IN LEAGUE 2 TITLE SEASON

PTS Academy Stadium showing significant increase in attendances on title winning League 2 season

11 February 2019

Attendances for the first 16 home league games of the 2018/19 season at the PTS Academy Stadium are up on the same period the last time the Cobblers played in League 2 - the 2015/16 title winning season.

The first 16 home league games of the current season have seen 82,496 supporters pass through the PTS Academy Stadium turnstiles, an average of 5,156 per home game.

For the same period in the 2015/16 season, 77,833 supporters attended at an average of 4,864.

"To be recording an increase on the last time the club played at this level, and that incredible season, is a fantastic achievement," said Chief Executive James Whiting.

"Of course the 2015/16 crowds spiked from that point onwards as the season reached a climax but comparing like for like, we are delighted that we are showing an increase and it shows that we have grown our supporter base over the last few years.

"I think it is in part down to a number of reasons. Our matchday experience is highly rated, as the recent EFL mystery shopper exercise proved, as well as the Matchday Experiences we offer schools, teams and groups in the local area."

The EFL make two mystery shopper visits to all clubs each season and for the first visit to the PTS Academy Stadium this season the club were rated 8.3/10 across all categories, rating the Cobblers 27th out of the 72 EFL clubs for the matchday experience.

"All the staff work very hard to provide such experiences and the evidence is there that it is helping our attendances to grow and we are not totally reliant on on the pitch success, although that helps of course," said Whiting.

"We are seeing more and more teams and schools coming to join us to walk out with the players, wave the flags or take part in the Boost Cup and that is really helping us extend our community outreach and we are seeing those who attend return for more.

"I would encourage any team, school or group who has not yet joined us to please contact us and we would love to welcome you down to the PTS Academy Stadium."
