Cobblers boss Keith Curle was pleased to be in the hat for round 3 as he reflected on Sunday’s 3-1 home win over Notts County in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

“The result is always the most important thing in cup competitions and first and foremost we wanted to make sure we got the focus right,” he said.

“We did our homework, we knew what Notts County’s threats were going to be and where we could cause them problems.

“I thought they did themselves credit today but we had a game plan and we executed it well.

“Alan McCormack has got a winning mentality and a winning mindset, he’ll be disappointed with the booking today but there are certain characteristics’ to his game that we don’t want to take out.

“I’ll watch the draw and as soon as that comes out the homework starts on whoever we get. Any football team is beatable on their day and that’s the beauty of the cup.

“The cup isn’t part of our business plan. It’s not all about getting a pot of money in to get new players, we are trying to put things in place in terms of the club’s infrastructure to increase longevity.”
