The Northampton Town youth team travelled to Peterborough United on Saturday for their latest EFL Youth Alliance fixture.
The Cobblers were beaten 2-0 but coach Jon Brady felt the scoreline was an unfair reflection on his team's performance.
"The boys were excellent and we had chance after chance in the game," he said.
"We were in the ascendancy but we weren't helped by some refereeing decisions and that put us on the back foot.
"it was a bit of a smash and grab from Peterborough but in football you don't always get what you deserved and that is an important lesson. The result is disappointing but I can't fault the boys for the performance."
