Cobblers boss Keith Curle pulled no punches about the first half performance as he reflected on Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Yeovil.
“The first half was embarrassing,” he said.
“The second half was something like where we need to be but you can’t give goals away like that.
“There wasn’t a desire in the first half, in the second half there was that desire but you can’t give teams a two goal head start.
“This football club has a group of players that has been here for a period of time and the majority of games in that time have been lost. The fundamentals and make up of certain individuals isn’t right.
“My remit was to come and keep this club in the EFL and then take it forward. Now we need to move forward and I will change things.
“I’m here to improve, develop players and get this club on an upward spiral
“Ultimately there is still an element of players here who are used to not winning and that’s what I’m here to change. I need a group of players that have a hunger and a desire to operate at the top end of this division.”
