Northampton Town manager Dean Austin says the club are very proud of the young players coming through the club's Academy.

Morgan Roberts and Sean Whaler signed professional contracts in the summer, while Jay Williams played in the Checkatrade Trophy. A number of other players impressed when involved with the first team in pre-season.

“The Academy are the flag bearers for the club at this minute in time," said Austin.

“I’ve spoken a lot to Jon Brady and although the under 18s are doing really well now, two years ago they were struggling until he had the time to work with them and give them that winning mentality.

“Morgan Roberts has had a bit of a growth spurt so we had to ease him down but he is back training with us now and he is doing really well.

“Jay Williams is another one and Scott Pollock has done that well he’s got his scholarship and he’s also training with the first team now.

“Having the young players training with the group gives us an energy and vibrancy and that can be infectious. There is a big step up from under 18s to the first team but we are trying to reward the young players who are doing well.

“I think the club is progressing in lots of areas but we know that for a lot of supporters it’s all about what happens on a Saturday afternoon and of course we want to start winning.”
