A TRIBUTE TO ZANDER DIAMOND AS FORMER DEFENDER RETIRES

Club wish former defender well

17 October 2018

Former Northampton Town defender Zander Diamond has been forced to retire from the game because of injury.

The 33 year old Diamond joined the Cobblers, initially on loan, in February 2014 when Northampton Town were bottom of League 2.

He helped the Cobblers claw their way to safety during the rest of the season, before joining the club on a permanent basis the following summer.

Diamond spent a further three very successful years with Northampton Town, helping the Cobblers to a mid-table finish in 2014/15 before playing a big part in the League 2 title win the following season.

He remained a regular in the side during the 2016/17 League 1 season, winning the player of the season award before leaving the club at the end of that season to join League 2 side Mansfield Town.

In all, Diamond made 125 of his 485 career appearances for the Cobblers.

After spending just over a season with Mansfield Town, Diamond has had to call time on his career because of injury.

All of us at Northampton Town send our very best wishes to Zander and his family, we will always be grateful for the huge role he played for Northampton Town between 2014 and 2017.
