Northampton Town's under 18 team, unbeaten in league and cup matches this season, were invited up by Liverpool to play their youth team at the Reds Melwood training base on Wednesday.
Liverpool won the game 4-0, but coach Jon Brady said the experience was fantastic for his players.
"We competed really well, especially during the first half," he said.
"Liverpool have a few players away on international duty, but other than that, this was the strongest side they could name and they took the game very seriously.
"We were very much in the game at half time, we were 1-0 down but we had created a number of chances and worked their goalkeeper a number of times.
"In the second half, the quality Liverpool have shone through, but it was a fantastic learning experience for our boys. They got to see at first hand the level a top Premier League club are at and the standards we are striving to achieve.
"I am very proud of the group we have and their performance today. We thank Liverpool for hosting us and the huge respect they paid us and our players will have gained a huge amount from this experience."
