Keith Curle was a happy man as he reflected on Tuesday night’s 5-0 away win at Macclesfield Town.
A first-half hat-trick from Matt Crooks and a goal from Daniel Powell saw the Cobblers lead 4-0 at the break with Aaron Pierre adding a fifth in second half stoppage time.
“The tempo we set from the start was a massive improvement from Saturday,” he said.
“There were a lot of plusses tonight and I could sense there was an air of hunger and desire in the changing room to bounce back from Saturday.
“I made some changes to the team but I don’t just make changes for the sake of it and I think it showed the quality and versatility we have in the squad.
“Matt Crooks typifies that quality, he has the ability and he took his goals really well.
“If you master the simple things in football confidence builds and when you have the fundamentals then you can go and play and express yourself.
“No matter the opposition the foundation you want to build from has to be there. I like clean sheets but I like scoring goals as well. There is a balance to be had but we are committed that we want to go and score goals.
"I am pleased for the supporters tonight. It was a long way to come on a wet night and we thank them for their support."
