NORTHAMPTON TOWN LADIES CONTINUE WINNING RUN

Northampton Town Ladies 5 Loughborough Vixens 1 - the match report

15 October 2018

The Northampton Town Ladies met Loughborough Foxes Vixens at Blisworth for their second home game of the season. The visitors had started the season brightly, winning three of their last four games.

The weather conditions were difficult as rain continued to fall throughout the game, making possession for either side difficult. The Cobblers managed to create chances early on, but the Vixens defence stood firm.

After 10 minutes, Kellie Billenness played Emma Dunmore through one-on-one with the keeper, and the Cobblers top scorer made no mistake to open the scoring.

Northampton Town could have quickly added to the score with efforts from Grace Adeyinka, Leah Stacey, Georgie Powell and Kellie Billenness but they were unable to make the most of their chances.

Jessica Waldrum levelled for the Vixens on 18 minutes when she found herself through on goal.

Both sides continued to threaten but parity was maintained until the 31st minute when Sara Wait’s clearance on the halfway line found the feet of Emma Dunmore who again made no mistake in front of goal to put Cobblers 2-0 ahead.

Just moments later, Alex Bartlett won her midfield battle and put Dunmore through for her hat-trick and the Cobblers ended the half 3-1 up.

In the second half, the Cobblers maintained most of the possession and continued to create chances in difficult weather conditions. On 57 minutes, a corner from Leah Stacey was met by Alex Bartlett but her header thumped against the cross bar, however, the rebound was volleyed home by Emma Dunmore to make it 4-1.

Dunmore later turned provider putting through Leah Stacey for her only goal of the game to round off the scoring after 63 minutes.

Northampton Town Ladies would like to thank all of the supporters for coming along to the game despite the weather conditions - the players were delighted to see some of the younger girls coming along to show their support!
