KEITH CURLE HAS ENJOYED HIS FIRST FEW WEEKS AS HE PREPARES SQUAD FOR CREWE TEST

The Cobblers boss looks ahead to Saturday's game

Cobblers boss Keith Curle says he has enjoyed his first few weeks at the PTS Academy Stadium as he prepares his squad for Saturday’s home game with Crewe Alexandra.

“Results are vitally important but there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes as well,” he said.

“I’m still finding my feet and all the staff at the club have been excellent. It’s been an enjoyable start and winning games does make it easier.

“We are trying to build a wave but even if we weren’t getting results the principles we are putting in place would still be the same.

“There is still work to be done on the foundations and we are still putting those pillars in place.

“There is a definite vibe from the supporters and you could feel that again on Saturday. We do want to play free flowing attacking football but there was an understanding in the second half against Oldham that we had to play a little bit differently. Even so I still felt we created the two best chances and we looked dangerous on the break.

“We showed a backbone and we know how to win a game of football now and that is crucial.

“I know David Artell well and I signed him twice. He was a very combative centre half and he has taken to management really well. Crewe have some dangerous players but they know coming here they will be in for a competitive game of football.

“The work ethos is growing throughout the squad and we can’t let our work rate drop. We are still at the wrong end of the table and we need to keep winning games.”
